IN MEMORY

On Thursday, July 3rd, 1919, at 5 o'clock p. m., God sent His death angel into our midst and called from this earth our loving, noble-hearted grandmother, aged 68 years and eight days. Her maiden name was Mary Margarette Gambrell. She was married to H. P. Duckworth at the age of 18 years. To them were born ten children. Her husband and three children had gone on to await her coming.

She joined the Palestine Baptist church in Jones county in early life and afterwards moved her membership to Goodwater Baptist church of this county where she was a faithful member until death. She had been in ill health for two years. Loving hands did all that could be done to save her but God's will and not ours, be done.

She was a true and noble-hearted woman and loved by all who knew her. Oh! how we hated to give her up, but God's will had to be answered. We hope to meet our loved one again in the great beyond, where there will be no more partings.

She leaves seven children, five sons and two daughters; J. L. Duckworth of Oma; D. W. Duckworth of Mendenhall; A. W. Duckworth, B. D. Duckworth and R. E. Duckworth of Magee; Mrs. Beulah Herrington and Mrs. Addie McIntosh of Magee. She leaves thirty-nine grandchildren, five brothers, three sisters and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure, though we must remember that God giveth and also taketh.

On the following day, July 4th, her remains were laid to rest in the Goodwater cemetery to await the resurrection morn. Burial services were conducted by Rev. S. W. Sproles of Magee, witnessed by a large congregation.

How it filled our hearts with sadness to part with such a loving one, but
"We said farewell our loved one,
And kissed her precious cheek,
Then whispered to our Savior
On the Bright Shore we shall meet."

Written by two of her grandchildren, Annah and Vergie Duckworth.
