Roy Dean Blanchard, son of Roy and Opal Blackford Blanchard, was born October 16, 1926 on a farm in Conway, Iowa and left this life July 12, 2009 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri.
He attended elementary school in the Clearmont, Missouri, area and graduated from Clearmont High School in 1944. Dean served his country from 1945-47 in the US Army during WWII. He then returned to the area and on July 15, 1947, Dean married Elois Charlene Fox of Elmo, Missouri, in Shenandoah, Iowa and began farming. To this marriage, five children were born: Gerald, Brenda, Alan, Brian and Lyle.
In 1976, Dean was baptized into the Clearmont Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He also served as a deacon and teacher in the Hopkins, Missouri. Baptist Church and at Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Missouri.
A farmer, Dean was a dedicated steward of the land and earned several awards for his dedication to conserve the soil. One award was Hopkins Farmer of the Year. Dean worked very hard promoting agriculture and served on many 4-H committees, attending many 4-H events and horse shows.
He was preceded in death by his sons; Gerald and Brian; parents; Roy and Opal Blanchard; his granddaughter; Correne Cox Welch and brother-in-law; Charles "Bud" Fox.
Survivors include his wife; Charlene, Maryville; daughter; Brenda (Ron) Cox, Bedford, Iowa; son; Alan (Kathy) Blanchard, Clearmont and son; Lyle Blanchard, Beatrice, Nebraska; Grandchildren; Fletcher Cox (Fiancee Rachel Segrest), Chicago, Illinois; Troy Cox, Nyala, Sudan, Africa; grandson-in-law; Patrick Welch, Bedford; Dustin and Jesse Blanchard, Clearmont; Ashley Blanchard, Maryville; and Shelby and Nate Blanchard and their mother; Debbie Still, Kansas City, Missouri; brothers; Glenn (Jean) Widefield, Colorado; Raymond (Pat), Doland Springs, Arizona; sisters; Cathleen McIntyre, Shambaugh, Iowa; and Helen (LeRoy) Morrison, Maryville; brother and sister-in-law; Merle and Ruth Fox, Rock Port, Missouri.
Burial: Hopkins Cemetery, Hapkins, Missouri.
