Tony Avelar passed away from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. Tony was a very nice person and is truely missed by many. He had turned 22 years the month before his death.

I did not know Tony personally, he was a good close friend of my two sisters.

Man dies as car strikes pipe, tree.
A Delano man was fatally injured yesterday when his car struck an irrigation standpipe, then a tree, the California Highway Patrol reports.
Antonio Avelar, 22, 930 Belmont Street, was pronounced dead at Delano Community Hospital at 6 p.m.
The CHP said Avelar was driving north on Driver Road, south of Garces Highway, at 5:17 p.m. Officers said Avelar's car was passing other northbound vehicles when it went across the southbound lane, struck the 10 foot high standpipe, became airborne and slammed into an almond tree.
A passenger in the car, (name, age, address omitted for privacy)Delano, received head and facial injuries for which he was treated and released at Delano Community Hospital.

I attended Tony's funeral with my sisters. After the funeral, the passenger visited us and told my sisters that Tony left the road because another car was coming in the opposite direction. If Tony had not driven off the highway, he would have been involved in a head on collision.
