Vena Mae Reed, 87, of Tulsa, passed from this life in Tulsa on Monday, February 22, 2010 in Tulsa and entered into the presence of the Lord who she faithfully served for many years. Vena was born in Missouri on April 11, 1922, one of thirteen children born to Mitchell Hammock and Alice (Bartlett) Hammock. She worked for many years as a Certified Housekeeper at the Rader Center in Sand Springs prior to her retirement. Vena married James Richard Broam in Osage, Oklahoma in 1940. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1980. Several years later she married Harvey Reed, who preceded her in death in 1998.

Vena was an active member of Word of Life church in Sand Springs where she served in several capacities. She was a hostess in the church's Hospitality Room and had diligently served in that capacity since the inception of the Hospitality Room ministry about 10 years ago. She also served as a Greeter and could be counted on to have a warm, friendly smile and greeting for people as they came into the church. Vena was also an active participant in the Senior Singles ministry of the church. Several years ago Vena approached the Business Administrator of the church and indicated that she wanted to take on the cleaning duties for the church's kitchen and ever since that date she made sure that the kitchen was cleaned at least once a week, and that all linens and things were clean and ready for use.

Family was paramount to her and she derived real satisfaction from preparing large holiday meals for her family, and always made sure they went home with special items from the meal, such as her dressing. She also enjoyed working outdoors in her garden and yard and would frequently bring flowers to friends at church, where her church family was simply an extension of her family, because she cared about them so much.

Vena is survived by a daughter, Pat Lewis and husband Dee of Sand Springs, a son, Jimmy Richard Broam of Apache, OK, five grandchildren, Tonya Janson, Richelle Blades, Stacy White, Kelly Broam, and Ramona Broam, five great-grandchildren, Keely Janson, Melissa Pelton, Brittany Goodman, Stephanie Horne, and Karley White, two great-great-grandchildren, Ryley Goodman, and Ethan Goodman and a host of other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband James Richard Broam, her second husband Harvey E. Reed, five sisters, and seven brothers.

Visitation for Vena will be Tuesday, February 23rd and Wednesday, February 24th, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. both days. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Word of Life church, 1402 N 81st W Ave, Sand Springs, with Pastor David Emigh officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill cemetery in Mannford under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service.
