Lt. Bryant was Member of Force for 20 Years
Namon G. Bryant, who was a member of the Tupelo police force for many years, died Thursday afternoon at his home after an illness of three months. He was 55.
Services were held Saturday in the chapel at WE Pegues with the Rev. Harold Wilder officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery with city policemen as pallbearers.
Mr. Bryant was born in Union County on November 9, 1909, to William R. and Kizzie McCraw Bryant. He had been employed by the City of Tupelo for 20 years before he retired two years ago as a lieutenant on the police force. He worked with the fire department for a short time before becoming a policeman.
He was a member of East Heights Baptist Church and was married September 11, 1932, to Miss Minnie Lee Montgomery. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Bobby Norris and Mrs. James Kidd, both of Tupelo; a sister, Mrs. Von Earnest of Tupelo; three brothers, Roger Bryant of Meridian, W. R. Bryant of St. Louis, Mo., and Raymond Bryant of Birmingham, Ala; and six grandchildren.
