She was born on Dec. 27, 1917 in the Town of Tripp, Wis. to William and Nellie (Buck) Ziemer.
Her mother Nellie died in 1918 and Zona was raised by her paternal grandparents until the age of ten. She attended grade school in Brownsdale, Minn. and then went to live with her father in Tripp, where she finished grade school. She attended the Presbyterian Sunday School in Iron River, Wis.
Zona went to work as a domestic in Duluth in 1935 and later moved to Superior where she also worked as a domestic until her retirement in 1988.
She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and liked doing for others like making quilts and any other kind of needle work until she became vision impaired.
Zona is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Glenn) Jenkins, Tallahassee, Fla.; one grandson, Scott T. (Natalie) Olson, Tucson, Ariz.; two great-granddaughters, Morgan Olson and Caitlin Baker, son-in-law, Tom (Nancy Parker) Olson, Florida and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 2003; a daughter Elaine in 2002, her brother Darell in 2002; her parents and her stepmother, Margaret.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Hillmer, officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Zona's family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Luke's Hospice Home Health Care Service and special friends, Marilyn and Bob Blomquist, her helper Angie Haworth from Helping Hands for their care and compassion.
