She was born in Charleston, WV, on October 8, 1923. She was previously employed by Libby Owens Glass Co. Gret was a homemaker of 63 years. Mamaw spent her life spoiling her children, loving her grandchildren and taking care of others.
She attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she was an active member in the Senior Citizens.
Gret was preceded in death by her father, Major Bailey; mother Elsie Toney; brothers, Ophie Bailey, Calvin Lee Bailey and Voight Bailey; sister, Emma Jane Dunlap; and infant son, Michael Kent Lipscomb.
Gret is survived by her loving husband and lifelong companion, William "Hugh" Lipscomb, whom she married on June 26, 1948; son, Rodney Lipscomb and wife Teresa of Pinch; daughters, Marsha Kendall and husband Larry of Charleston and Donna Lipscomb of Charleston; nine grandchildren, Cathy Clendenin, Rodney Lipscomb, Matthew Kendall, Crystal Guess, Meredith Harris, Morgan Prunty, Marcus Prunty, Ryan Pittman and Bailey Pittman; six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Cole, Landon, Trent, Kailey and Elodie; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Gret's family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Grey and Stephanie Metz, Dr. Scott Miller and Dr. Reginald McClung for the care they provided to her. Also to the CAMC Memorial nursing staff at Unit 4 South was most kind and supportive, as was the nursing group at the SICU.
