MERKEL, Feb. 15--Last rites for George E. Comegys, 70, prominent retired merchant and resident of Merkel for 30 years, were said at his home Saturday morning at 10 c'clock by Elder W. G. Cypert, minister of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery here.

Mr. Comegys, owner of the Star store for 25 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. O. Anderson, Friday, after a lingering illness.

Another daughter, Mrs. Courtney Hunt of Haskell, and a son, Claude Comegys of Merkel, survive. Mrs. Comegys, the former Flora Davis Thurman, died May 7, 1922.

Born in Indiana, G. E. Comegys moved to Texas 37 years ago and located at Decatur. With his family he moved to Merkel in 1900. He retired from business five years ago.

Mr. Comegys was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriners were pall-bearers: B. F. Cox and Bud Sears of Abilene; Ed B. Gamble, L. R. Thompson, J. E. Boaz, Dr. R. I. Grimes of Merkel.
