Pioneer Citizen Claimed by Death

John L. Spicer Passes Away at His Home Thursday Morning at 11 o'clock.

Mr. John L. Spicer, one of Covington County's early settlers passed away at his home on Pearl Ave. Thursday morning at 11 o'clock.

Mr. Spicer moved to Covington County about 50 years ago, locating close to Open Pond, homesteading a farm there that is still known as the Spicer place. For the past fifteen years he has been making his home in Andalusia. He will be missed by a great host of friends.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Spicer, and nine children: Will, Parnell, Lucius, Emory, Mrs. Sallie Spears, Mrs. Anna Spears, Mrs. Bessie Simms, all of Covington County, Mrs. Bell Gunter of Tampa, Fl. and Mrs. Fannie Lou Cobb of Hollywood, Fl. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren.

Interment was made in Zion Rock cemetery under the direction of Rev. Shears of Opp.

Pallbearers were: Ellis Benton, Sildon Garrison, J.G. Massey, H.R. Jones, Yance Carter, and Charlie Northcutt. Benson Funeral Home in charge.
