Madeline was the fourth of thirteen children and she was educated in The Baltimore City Public School System. Madeline grew up a faithful member and the Star of The Bethlehem A.M.E. Church. As a teenage, Madeline stood in the gap with her mother and helped in the rearing of her younger siblings. The Lord was the stronghold of Madeline's life. One day as Madeline was taking care of her son and daughter, Madeline met and married the late Bernard Rose Sr. Their union was blessed with five children. In 1964, Madeline met and married William Alston Sr. Their union was blessed with one son.
Nana, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and all who loved her, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Nana always availed herself for anyone: you could always count on Nana for help, support, wisdom, guidance and a listening ear. Nana loved children and whenever you saw her you would see one tugging at her housecoat or in Nana's loving arms. This love for children led Nana to begin her own Day Care Business and continued for numerous years until her health began to fail. Nana loved family gatherings, traveling and enjoyed working puzzles. Nana's grandchildren counted on her to keep them focused and pointed in the right direction.
In the 1970's, Nana joined The Mt. Olive Holy Evangelistic Church under the Leadership of The Late Bishop Walter Madison Warner. Shortly thereafter, Nana received The Baptism of The Holy Spirit, thereby becoming a new creation in Christ Jesus. "One thing I asked of The Lord, that is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of The Lord all the days of my life to gaze upon the beauty of The Lord and to seek him in His Temple." Nana continued to grow in the Wisdom and the Knowledge of Jesus Christ. Nana was quick to let you know that Jesus continuously held her hand until the Lord called her into His Heavenly Home.
Madeline leaves to cherish her fondest memories: her husband William Alston Sr.; four daughters: Deborah Bush, Paulette McPherson, Bernadette Rose, and Alda Rose; four sons: Harold Scott, Bernard Rose Jr., Cornelius W. Rose and William Alston Jr.; thirty-two grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister: Doreatha Davis; two brothers: Leonard and Theodore Scott; two sons-in-law: Edward Bush and David McPherson; one daughter-in-law: Sandra Scott; one mother-in-law: Elizabeth Moss; one sister-in-law: Diane; two brothers-in-law: Eugene and Earl Lee Moss and a host of
