BAUMHAUER, SR
Mr Charles A Baumhauer Sr.,-A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died in a local hospital Tuesday, June 22, 1982 at the age of 92 years. Mr Baumhauer was a member of the St John's Episcopal Church. He was a former mayor and city commissioner of Mobile for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Helen Bishop Baumhauer; two sons Mr charles A Baumhauer Jr., and Mr Edward D Baumhauer; three sisters, Mrs. Celie B Lynch, Mrs Cloy B Smith and Mrs Alma B Gillies; two brothers, mr John D Baumhauer Sr and Mr Fody E Baumhauer all of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 24, 1982 at 10 a.m. in St. John's Espiscopal Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Belmany Funeral Home, 100 S Beltline Hwy, Mobile, AL.

Funeral rites today for former mayor
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St John's Episcopal Church for Charles A Baumhauer Sr., a former mayor of Mobile.
Baumhauer, 92 served as a Mobile city commissioner for 20 years, and by means of the rotations system of the commissioners he served as mayor seven times, more than any person in history had served in the position at the time Baumhauer left office in 1953.
In a Press Register interview at the end of his 20 years as a city father, Baumhauer said he was most proud of his influence in guiding the city from the brink of bankruptcy during his early years in office.
Baumhauer, a native Mobilian, was a former president of the Mobile Lions Club and the Mobile Opera Guild. He was a vestryman of St. John's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Historic Mobile Preservation Society and numerous other civic religious and social organizations.
Baumhauer is survived by his wife, Helen Bishop Baumhauer; two sons, Charles A Baumhauer Jr and Edward B Baumhauer; three sisters, Celie B Lynch, Cloy B Smith and Alma B Gillies; two brothers, John D Baumhauer Sr. and Fody E Baumhauer; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. All are of Mobile. The family request that memorials be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.
