Lester was born on Feb. 22, 1919 in Yuma County to Samuel and Hattie (Hanson) Bird. After he graduated from high school he began farming.
On Oct. 23, 1950, Lester and Iva Jane Wagner were united in marriage. To this union two children were born, Donna and Donald. Lester and Iva Jane lived on the farm until 1967 when they moved into town. Lester drove back and forth, continuing to farm.
Lester was a life-time farmer and rancher. He was well known for his shorthorn cattle and International tractors.
Along with farming, Lester and his pet dog loved delivering the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News.
Lester enjoyed going to the drag races, tractor pulls and antique car and tractor shows. He was a special person, with a story to tell, advice to give and a quick joke. He game everyone a nickname.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James.
He is survived by his wife, Iva Jane; a daughter, Donna Aagesen and husband Rick; a son, Donald; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Jeanetta, Santana and Elan; sister-in-law, Paulene Cook; aunt, Nancy Hansen; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of special friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Robert McCumber and John Westerberg officiating. Interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery. Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma directed the services.--Yuma Pioneer, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, Pg. 6
