Camilla, Georgia. James Berton Maples passed away at his home on Rt. 1, Camilla, Saturday, July 6th, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 7th, at four o'clock from the Hopeful Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home in charge. Nephews were pallbearers.

Mr. Maples was born and spent his entire life in Mitchell County. He was the son of the late Nathan and Ada Dennard Maples. He was seventy years of age. He was a farmer and landowner.

Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Ruby Clyde Shirah; two daughters, Mrs. J. H. Lee of Albany and Mrs. Tommy Timmons of Crestview, Fla.; six sons, Woodrow Maples of Tampa, Fla., Alfred Maples of Albany, Jimmy Maples of San Diego, Calif., Thomas Maples of San Francisco, Calif., Eugene Pope and Lavern Pope of Camilla; one sister, Mrs. Maude Rogers of Plant City, Fla., and several grandchildren.
