Melva B. Miller, 97, of St. Simons Island died Friday at the Brian Center Inn. Formerly of Miami, she had been a resident of St. Simons Island for 17 years. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She was a member of the Blythe Island United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of Blythe Island. She was one of the first licensed female pilots in Florida flying sea planes. She showed show horses in Saginaw, Mich., and was a registered nurse at the Broward General Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blythe Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Kase officiating. Entombment will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Christian Kase, David Latner, Phil Flournoy, Johnny DeJournett, Matt Hall, Bill Hoffman, Buddy Coulby, Michael Marchesseau, Johnny Mavromat, George Tindle and Tom Whitfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be nurses and staff at the Brian Center Inn and the Blythe Island United Methodist Church family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Blythe Island United Methodist Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne C. Kase of St. Simons Island; a son, George E. Schaiberger of Miami; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
