Leaves $10,000 For A Church

Will Of R.M. Norris, Burdett, Provides For Memorial To Wife

Burdett- the will of the late R.M. Norris, wealthy farmer banker and merchant of Burdett who died unexpectedly last week at Excelsior springs, Mo., leaves $10,000 for a new Methodist Church in Burdett as a memorial to his wife. In order to use the gift, however, the church must stand on a suitable site and foundation, both free of debt.

Norris was a large landowner in Pawnee and Hodgeman counties, and was also left a large estate in bonds and other property, including the Norris State Bank in Burdett and a mercantile establishment.

To a son, Robert A. of Burdett, and daughter, Miss Mabel Harrison, of Kansas City, he left one-third of the income from six quarter sections of land until Jan. l1, 1949, and to a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Myrna Norris Johnson, of Eureka, one-third of the come from five quarters of land, until that date. Also bring a niece, Cora B. Estell, Alhambra, Calif. is to receive $100 per year. The will provides that his entire estate is to be divided, 10 years hence, after Jan. 1, 1949, among the children and heirs.

Norris came to Pawnee County a comparatively poor man, settling on a homestead claim northwest of Burdett, in Hodgeman County, 54 years ago. He became one of the wealthiest men of this section. He organized the State Bank here 32 years ago.
