'Pioneer Trails and Trials,' 1976, Madison County History Association, page 284:

"In the early 1870's James Brook and his wife, Mary (Bumby) Brook, and their sons, Crossland, Henry, Walter and Joseph, and daughters, Vinie, Polly, Katherine, Florence, Grace and Elsie, left England by steamboat for the United States. Preceding them to the U. S. were two Bumby brothers who were so impressed with the new world they begged James and Mary to come to this country, where their family would have a better chance in life as they grew up. Mary had a lung condition and the Bumby brothers were certain that this condition would be cured because of the wonderful pure air and sunshine here. From New York the Brook family came by train to Corinne, Utah, that being the end of the railroad at that time. They were met there by the Bumby brothers, where they purchased wagons and horses and traveled on to what is now Waterloo, Montana. On arriving in Waterloo, James acquired land and settled. James had been associated with a wool manufacturing enterprise in England, and he thought it would be wise to build a factory in this new land, however this enterprise was never accomplished."
