Teacher, civil rights activist, and frontier missionary. She was active in the underground railroad in southern Ohio. She then worked with her brother, Thomas S. Williamson, at his missions at Lac qui Parle (1843), Kaposia (1846-1852), and Pajutazee (1853-1862). She taught over 1,000 Dakotas to read and write in their own language. She was loved and trusted by the Dakota people. Many of them named their daughters after her.
