Ness City -- Alfred James "Fritz" Stecklein, 87, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Cedar Village Long Term Care, Ness City. He was born Dec. 17, 1920, to Carl H. and Anna Doerfler Stecklein at Ness City.

He married Dorothy V. Peters on June 12, 1941, at Cimarron. She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2007.

He was a house and building painter, farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Frank Stull Post No. 152, all of Ness City.

Survivors include two sons, Alfred L. Stecklein, Golden, Colo., and A. Dean Stecklein, Centennial, Colo.; two daughters, Evelyn Ann Lynne, Ness City, and Elanor Sue Schweitzer, Warsaw, Mo.; one brother, Edward Stecklein, Ness City; one sister, Lorene Pfannenstiel, Ness City; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Henry, Isidore and Paul; four sisters, Josephine Pfannenstiel, Irene Herman, Mathilda Dinges and Beneta Stecklein.

The funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, with Rev. Warren Stecklein presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday morning at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorials are suggested to the American Legion in care of the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Inc., PO Box 96, Ness City, KS.
