Ludwig was the son of Michael Adolph Lehmann and Maria Theresia Ludwig.
~

Ludwig Lehmann married Caroline Zeye in 1822 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Petri, Havelberg, Germany.
In 1849, Ludwig and Caroline Lehmann, along with their four sons and Ludwig's 73-year-old mother, Maria Theresa Lehmann, left Germany from the Port of Hamburg and sailed for Galveston, Texas. The three-month long journey was quite difficult, and Maria Theresa Lehmann died making the trip across the Atlantic Ocean.
Upon the Lehmann Family's arrival at the Port of Galveston on December 18, 1849, Ludwig and Caroline Lehmann and their sons made their way to Washington County, Texas. Ludwig Lehmann purchased 200-acres of land in the Berlin community for William S. Lyle out of the Philip Coe League. Later, Ludwig Lehmann purchased 215-acres from Margaret Jamison. This second purchase of land is believed to be where the main Lehmann house was located and where the family cemetery is located today.
Caroline Lehmann died April 27, 1853, and she was the first to be buried in the Ludwig Lehmann Family Cemetery. Ludwig Lehmann died nearly two years after his wife. Before his death, Ludwig Lehmann donated 11-acres of land for a church, and this church became the Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin, which was formally organized on December 25, 1854. Eben Ezer Lutheran Church is the oldest Lutheran church in Washington County.
Two months after Eben Ezer Lutheran Church was organized, Ludwig Lehmann died on February 28, 1855, at the age of 60 years. Ludwig Lehmann was buried beside his wife Caroline and his burial was the second to be made in the family cemetery.
Years later, his son Carl Ludwig Lehmann ordered a grave marker from Germany to be placed on his parents' graves.
