Katherine Elizabeth Brant Nation, 81, died peacefully on Thesday, July 21, 2009, in Fort Collins with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be from 10 a.rn. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Tennant Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Tennant Funeral Home with Pastor Spencer Green officiat ing. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
She was born on July 14, 1928, in Omaha, Neb., the only child of H.C. (Jiggs) and Elizabeth Brant. She moved with her parents and grand parents to Sterling as a young child and lived in the northeast Colorado area for most of her years, until 2005 when she moved to Greeley to be near her daughters and her beloved mountains.
Katherine was married to Carl L. Nation in 1944. She worked in the dietary department at Logan County Hospital for many years and at Montgomery Wards. After Carl's death in 1964, she married Tom Hnizdll in 1969 and they lived and. farmed in Willard until 2003.
Katherine's greatest joy was her family, the mountains,
gardening,ceramics,pinochle, cooking, and crocheting. When asked how she wanted to be remembered,she said "I loved my family and friends. The more kids I have around me the better. My family was very important to me and I loved my ‘ceramic' buddies who provided me with many wonderful memo ries and friendships. I am very thankful for the wonderful rriemories that my parents and grandparents provided me, especially their love of the mountains."
Katherine is survived by her three daughters, Carol Peddicord and Kathi Howell of Windsor and Gheri Simon and husband Mark of Fort Collins; Carol's daughter, Dawn Buck and family of Greeley; Cheri's children, Damion and David Lively of Greeley and Fort Collins respectively and Donann Schoon and family of Grand Junction, Leroy and Tiffany Henderson and family of Loveland; Kathi's children, Cody Howell and family of Greeley and, Katie Brigham and husband of Grandby; a daughter-in-law, Deb Nation (wife of the late Sonny Nation) of Buffalo, S.D., and their son, Steve and family of Buffalo, and daughter, Rennie Johnson and family of Fort Morgan; grandchildren, Kevin Nation and family of Dublin, Ga., Tonya Erickson of Otis, Stacie Williams of Wyoming and Robert Wright, children of the late Robert Nation. She also leaves behind 34 great-grand children and one great-great-grandchild,
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband and best friend forever, Carl Nation; husband, Tom Hnizdll; sons, Sonny, Robert and David Nation; arid grand sons, Michael Peddicord and Matthew Peddicord, as well as her parents and grandparents.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk,
