Sgt. Samuel Wright, s. of Ens. Samuel Wright & Mary Butler, b. Jan. 6, 1660/1 at Wethersfield, Conn. He d. testate Oct. 12, 1734 at Wethersfield, Æ 75.

On May 12, 1686 at Wethersfield, Samuel m. 1) Rebecca Crafts, dau. of Moses Crafts (q.v. Craft) & Rebecca Gardner, b. Mar. 2, 1670/1 (bapt. Mar. 5) at Roxbury, Mass. She d. Mar. 14, 1710/11 at Wethersfield, Æ 41.

Samuel m. 2) Aug. 1, 1723 at Wethersfield, his twice widowed half 1st cousin Abigail (Butler) (Crane) Walker, dau. of Nathaniel Butler [the half-brother of Samuel's mother] and Sarah Green, b. circa 1674 at Hartford, Conn. She d. intestate Jan. 1, 1739/40 at Stratford, Conn. apparently while visiting or living with the family of dau. Abigail (Walker) Sherman (wife of Enos, who was administrator of his mother-in-law's estate at Stratford). There were no children of this second marriage.

• i. Mabel Wright, b. Jan. 16, 1686/7, d. Oct. 11, 1767 at Wethersfield, Æ 81 (g.s.); m. May 1, 1707 at Wethersfield, Josiah Belden (q.v., Belding), s. of John Belden & Dorothy Willard, b. Feb. 12, 1682/3 at Wethersfield. He d. Sept. 5, 1746 at Wethersfield, Æ 64 (g.s.). Ten children of the family.

• ii. Sarah Wright, b. Mar. 5, 1687/8, d. Sept. 8, 1690.

• iii. Mary Wright, b. Dec. 13, 1689, d. intestate Aug. 17, 1752 at Farmington (Kensington Parish), Conn., Æ 63 (g.s.); m. Dec. 9, 1714 (Farmington VRs) John Stanley, s. of John Stanley and Esther Newell, b. Feb. 17, 1682/3 at Farmington. He d. intestate Sept. 8, 1748 recorded in the Farmington VRs, Æ 66 (g.s.) Three children of the family.

• iv. Rebecca Wright, b. Sept. 18, 1691, d. Sept. 29, 1691.

• v. Capt. Samuel Wright 3rd, b. Jan. 6, 1692/3, d. June 6, 1732 at Wethersfield; m. Jan. 2, 1717/8 at Wethersfield, Abigail Goodrich [Samuel's 1st cousin], dau. of Jonathan Goodrich & Abigail Craft(s), b. Nov. 28, 1694 at Wethersfield. She m. 2) Nathaniel Dickinson and d. July 10, 1777 at Lenox, Mass. Five children of the family.

• vii. Dea. Ebenezer Wright, b. Nov. 2, 1696, d. Sep 2, 1766, Æ 70; m. Mar. 1, 1721/2 at Wethersfield, Sarah Butler, dau. William Butler & Hannah Hills, b. Jan. 11, 1697/8 at Wethersfield. The date and place of her d. is unknown. Four children of the family.

• viii. Rebecca Wright, b. Sept. 1, 1698; she is not mentioned in her father's Apr. 1734 will.

• ix. Josiah Wright, b. Jan. 16, 1699/700; he is not mentioned as living in his father's Apr. 1734 will, thus he was not, as errantly claimed by Stiles and all authors concerning the Sgt. Samuel Wright family [including Curtis Wright (1915) in Descendants of Sir John Wright of Kelvedon Hall, p. 81], the husband of Abigail Boardman. [Abigail Boardman m. May 15, 1735, Josiah Wright, b. Sept. 19, 1714, s. of Jonathan Wright & Hannah Hand of Wethersfield. They had eleven children of record at Wethersfield before relocating to Williamstown, Mass.]

• x. Abigail Wright, b. Feb. 16, 1701/2; m. Joseph Miller and was living in Apr. 1734 at the time of her father's will. She did NOT, as claimed by Stiles and Curtis Wright, m. Ezekiel Fosdick, whose 1st wife was Abigail, dau. of Capt. Samuel Wright and Abigail Goodrich [i.e., Abigail (Wright) Miller's niece, dau. of Abigail's brother Capt. Samuel Wright 3rd, No. v. above.]

• xi. Capt. Timothy Wright, b. Feb. 13, 1703/4, d. Oct. 29, 1763 at Wethersfield, Æ 60 (g.s.); m. Apr. 22, 1725 at Wethersfield, Sarah Walker, his step-sister, dau. of Samuel Walker & Abigail Butler [latter the 2nd wife of Timothy's father], b. Nov. 1, 1706 at Wethersfield. She d. intestate May 12, 1764 at Wethersfield, Æ 58 (g.s.) Eight children of the family.

• xii. Sarah Wright, b. Apr. 25, 1706; m. Oct. 25, 1727 at Wethersfield, Joseph Flower(s), bapt. Aug. 18, 1706 at Hartford, Conn. Eleven children of the family b. at Wethersfield before moving to West Springfield, Mass.

• xiii. Stephen Wright, b. Sep 10, 1708, d. July 13, 1780 at Wethersfield; m. Jan. 30, 1745/6 at Middletown, Conn., Esther Doolittle, d. of Samuel Doolittle, b. July 16, 1709 at Middletown, Conn.

This small stone is obviously the marker at the foot of Samuel's grave. An assumed larger inscribed stone at the head of his grave no longer exists.
