Michael Harold Hileman, 67, of rural North Manchester, Indiana, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at Wabash Skilled Care Center. He was born December 2, 1941 in Wabash County, Indiana to Arden and Hilda (Bowman) Hileman.
He graduated from Laketon High School in 1959 and married Georgianna Gaerte in Wabash County on June 14, 1959. Mike owned and operated Gaunt & Son Asphalt in Wabash since 1981. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church of North Manchester, a former board member of the Wabash Country Club and a former member of the Laketon Lions Club. Mike enjoyed gardening, farming, raising beef cattle, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. He also spent many hours overseeing the restoration of his round barn. Mike and his wife spent several winters in Venice, Florida. He loved his children, grandchildren, and his wife of 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Georgianna Hileman of North Manchester; two daughters, Lorie (Mark) Sorg of North Manchester, Kristy (Don) Cantrell of Wabash; four grandchildren, Michael (Jayme) Sorg of Fort Myers, Florida, Anthony (Kelli) Sorg of Wabash, Derrek (Meg Brock) Sorg, and Scarlett Melton of North Manchester. Also surviving are a great-granddaughter, Addison Sorg of Wabash; and three sisters, Linda (Frank) Miller of Roann, and Becky (Ernie) Holbrook and Lisa Sledge, both of Wabash.
Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Friends may call 2-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
