Daughter of Richard and Hepsebeth Caple Iley. Sister to Martha Iley Yeargan, William Stanton Iley and Richard Polk Iley.

Mary married Samuel Houston Barker on 20 Jul 1867 and to this union thirteen children were born.

I don't know anything of her life. My Grandfather, her son Richard Polk had died long before I was even born. My mother also knew very little of her father's childhood or his parents, so we have had to learn what we could thru census, and such.

These are her childen not found to be linked on her memorial are:

Elizabeth Ann Barker 5 Mar 1869-22 Dec 1894, husband; Thomas Gibson Martin.

Johnnie Vanessa Barker 1870-1882

Martha "Mattie" Barker 1872-1909, Husband; David Thomas Betts.

Ben Barker 1874-1890.

Samuel Henry Barker 3 Apr 1880-1936, Wife; Mary Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Martin.

Walter R Barker 4 Apr 1884-3 May 1976, Wife; Mollie Sossamon.

Lillian Mary or Mae Barker May 1888-29 Mar 1960, husband; S.T. Kropp.

If she ever had a marker it must of been wooden and is long gone.

It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
you died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
many years ago.
Spread out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
