KERRVILLE - John William (Jay) Clanton Sr., 77, passed into glory at his home on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, after a brave battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Clanton; children, John William Jr. (Pete) and Linda Clanton, Pam Burgess, Patti and Kenny Brown and Tammi Clanton; and special family friends, Larry Pults and Oscar Espinoza; grandchildren, Irena Kelley, Raeanna McCutcheon, Joan Clanton, Daniel and David Higginbotham, Chelsea Partlow and Morgan Clanton; and four great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, James Clifton Clanton and Auldon Ely Clanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Clanton; and four sisters.
Jay was born in Big Spring, Texas, on May 15, 1930, the youngest of seven children. During his life, he was a building contractor in Big Spring, building the Clanton Addition. He was an Apostolic minister in Vanderpool and Center Point, Texas, and lived the majority of his life in Kerrville. He was employed by Mooney Aircraft for many years, was the Director of Public Works for the city of Kerrville, and was an entrepreneur.
He served as an elder for Trinity Church of Center Point and enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling, jeeping and spending time with family and his many friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, at Kerrville Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, in the Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, in Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring, Texas, with the Rev. Don Davis officiating.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of floral arrangements, the family requests memorials be made in John's name to VistaCare Hospice and to the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Marie and the staff of VistaCare Hospice, Dr. Klaus Schroeder and Dr. Thomas Smith.
