Tobe's obituary appeared in the Abilene Reporter News, Abilene, Texas on 22 Mar 1965 under the headline Tobe Hilburn, Ex-Deputy, Dies at 63.

Tobe was the son of John O Hilburn and Isabell Pendergrass. On 25 Sep 1918, Tobe married Lillie Elizabeth Booth in DePort, Lamar County, TX. Tobe and Lillie had on daughter, Melba Lee Hilburn.

Tobe moved to Abilene in 1926. He was former Abilene policeman and served as deputy sheriff a number of years. At the time of his death, Tobe had been a night watchman at Citizens National Bank for the past 10 years and worked Sunday nights.

Tobe's obituary list the following survivors: a daughter, Mrs. Melba Jackson of Odessa; his mother, Mrs. Isabell Hilburn of Ranger; two sistes, Mrs. Ruby Venable of Rt. 1, Mingus, and Terela of Ranger; a grandaughter, Mrs. Barbara K. Robinson of San Jose, Calif; two great-grandchildren.

Tobe,63, was dead on arrival at Hendrick Memorial Hospital after becoming ill at his home. Funeral arrangements were to be announced by Kiker-Warren Funeral Home here.
