Well Known Farmer Dies At Hospital
Alonzo Chapman, a Lifelong Resident Of Milroy, Dies at Hospital; Death Is Sudden
Alonzo (Lon) Chapman, widely known Jasper county farmer who spent all of his lifetime in his native Milroy township, died at Jasper county hospital Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Athough he had been in ill health for several months, his death was sudden and unexpected. He entered the hospital Tuesday.
Death was pronounced due to a blood clot.
Mr. Chapman was 61 yrs of age. He was born in Milroy township on June 6, 1881, the son of James and Anna (Woods) Chapman, members of families who have figured in the life of the township since its earliest days. His entire business life was devoted to farming.
He was married to Irene Marthand on Setpember 4, 1919.
Surviving are the wife and six children: Helen, Eva, Dale, June, Russell and Marie all residing at the parental home. Other survivors are three sisters, Miss Pearl Chapman and Mrs. Emil Johnson of Milroy township, and Mrs. Thomas Johnson of Medaryville, and two brothers, Dan and William of Milroy.
Mr. Chapman was a good farmer and bore the high esteem of all.
The funeral services will be conducted from Milroy church at 2 o'clock Friday with the Rev. Earl Moore in charge. Burial will be at Benson cemetery. The remains will be at the W.J. Wright Chapel until shortly before the funeral hour.
