Darrell and Mary lived and farmed near Cainsville all of their married lives. He loved to play checkers, cards visits with family and friends, and pitch horseshoes. He attended the Oakland Rural school and was a member of the Zion Baptist Church where he was a Deacon.
Darrell was married March 9, 1938 to Mary Kathleen Crouse, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by his two daughters, Beverly Washburn [and son-in-law, Bob] of Cainsville and Joyce Shipley [and son-in-law, Robert] of Princeton, Missouri; by two grandchildren, Bobbie Sue Woodward [and husband, Darrel] of Kansas City, Missouri and Staci Joy Willits [and husband, Colin] of Blue Springs, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Robert and Morgan Rae Woodward, both of Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne McLain, and six sisters, infant, Zora Blanch McLain, Lois Wilson, Grace O'Neal Chambers, Verona Bowlin, Mildred Beeson, and Bonnie Johnson Graham.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 14, 2003, at the Princeton First Baptist Church in Princeton, Missouri, under the direction of the Green-Lee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton, Missouri. Burial was in the St. Paul Cemetery, north of Princeton.
