Retired principal of Porter-Gaud School and its predecessor, Porter Military Academy, Charleston, SC.

Died of self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Alexander is survived by a brother, Tom Alexander of Isle of Palms, SC, and several nieces and nephews.

He was born March 2, 1930, in Charleston, SC, a son of Marion Bishop Alexander and Ferdinand (Williams) Alexander.

He was a longtime resident of Charleston and Isle of Palms, SC and Woodley Farm near Fairplay, MD

He was a graduate of St. James Prep School (Maryland) and The Citadel, and an Army veteran of Korea.

He also did graduate work at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, 1972-1973.

During World War II, he and his family lived in the Chicago area, where he appeared on the Quiz Kids radio show. He later said that the producers mistook his Charleston accent for a British accent.
