Eliza was the 6th child, 5th daughter, born to Robert McCann and Elizabeth Martin McCann. Her family came to Texas in 1859 and settled in Trinity County. Her father left in 1862 for service in the Texas 5th Infantry. He died shortly after arriving in Richmond, Virginia, of disease and is buried there. Eliza was raised in Trinity County by her mother Elizabeth. She married Joseph E. Clark about 1887 and they had one son, Allen John Clark born 1888 in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Eliza married second to
James Davis Chessher in Trinity Co. They had one daughter,
Wilma B. Chessher, born 1898.
