Mrs. Nancy Witherington:

Died at the residence of J. S. Partin on the 6th instant, Mrs. Nancy Witherington age 69 years, 11 months and 20 days. After a long and painful illness of more than 6 months she was called to her eternal rest. On the 4th day of Dec. 1843 she was left a widow with five helpless children. From that time until her death she lived the desolate life of a widow and struggled alone to rear her orphan children...laying before them the good example of a pious and christian mother.

Mrs. Witherington was born in Cumberland Co. NC. and at age 7 moved to Laurens Co. Ga. where she lived the greater portion of her life. Her life was devoted to the cause of the Redeemer, and in her dying hours she gave abundant testimony that a home of rest awaited her weary soul.

She leaves 4 children, friends and relatives to mourn her loss. How can we do justice to the name and memory of so faithful a mother? I can only say; Children, follow her example.

She sleeps in her grave, neath the green oak tree. Where many have slept long ago,
and she's gone to her rest in the mansions of bliss. Where angels will dwell evermore.
