Sebastian was wed to Elizabeth Hood and had three children. It was made clear in his letters from the battlefields of the Civil War that he loved his family, his homeland, and his Lord. He fought for the Confederacy in the Alabama 47th Company E. He died courageously in the Battle of Atlanta. He was buried on the battlefield.
His wife Elizabeth never remarried and stayed devoted to his memory to the end of her life in the early 1900's. The marker at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery was placed in memory of Sebastian next to his wife's grave in honor of their unending love.
