Family Story: How William and Martha Met

When William was a young lad he happened upon some men trying in vain to relieve a cow who had gotton a potato caught in it's throat. Along with these men stood a young girl, around the age of 8 -10 years, watching with hope that the men would save the unfortunate creature that was before them. After all attempts failed it was suggested that someone put thier hand down the cows throat to dislodge the potato. The young girl hearing this said "my arm is small, I can do it best, you hold her mouth" So they did and she pulled out the potato to the relief of the cow and all who stood watching. The young William said to himself "that young miss, by and by ,shall be my wife" Her name was Martha Emerson.
