John Thomson Shane, age 92, passed away, Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Austin, Texas.

He was born September 1, 1917 to Ivory Albert and Ruth Nash Shane in Sabinal, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marjorie Harty Shane, sister, Mrs. Elizabeth O'Bryan of Big Lake, Texas; and many loved ones.

John T., affectionately called Gran Gran, moved to Austin just before his 8th grade school year. Having graduated from Austin High School in 1935, he attended the University of Texas where he played football. he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1942.

Having served two years in the National Guard. John T. was assigned to active duty with the U.S. Army in october 1942, where he served as Platoon leader and Technical Sergeant. he was honorably discharged in November 1945. During his service to our country, he received a combat infantryman's Badge, Good Conduct Medal, five Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart. In 1983, John T. retired as Post Master of Del Valle Postat Station.

Interment at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.

Honoring John as pallbearers will be Jim O'Bryan of Big Lake, Jim Rowley, Kevin Rowley, David Rowley, Albert Foster of Waco, Bob Freeman of Pasadena, Parker Berryhill and Tyler Berryhill.
