Funeral services for Hazel Luce, age 76, of Grapeland were held Saturday, September 26, in the local First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial followed at McCarter, east of Grapeland, under the direction of Bailey & Foster-Grapeland.

Pallbearers were John Minter, Joe Minter, Chris Minter, Joe Hamb, Denny Hamb, and Carroll Patrick.

Mrs. Luce died Wednesday afternoon, September 23, 1998, at Memorial Mother Francis Hospital in Palestine. She was born on August 6, 1922, in Coleman County to Edgar McQueen and Winnie Jane Turner McQueen. Mrs. Luce was a retired nurse and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grapeland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Luce, in 1985; one daughter, Nancy Lawrence, in 1990; and a son-in-law, David Mooney, in 1992.

Survivors include three daughters, Jean Minter and husband, Julian, of Grapeland, Brenda Mooney of Houston, and Patricia Stapp and husband, Lonnie, of Houston; three sisters, Frances Blythe of Grapeland, Edwina Bell of Pasadena, and Olene Clark of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Gina Ballow of Hardy, Arkansas, Stacy Bearden, Amy Lawrence, and Chris Mooney, all of Houston; and four great grandchildren, Steven and Hallie Ballow and MacKenzie and Myles Bearden.
