Mary Elizabeth Phillips
Mary Elizabeth Phillips, 68, of Hannah Mountain Road, Otto, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at her residence. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Alex and Beulah Rogers Norris. She was married to Barnard Phillips, who died in 1986. She was a charter member of the Tessentee Church of God.
Mrs Phillips had compassion for the handicapped. She was a respite-caregiver for the Macon County workshop and she would take clients home with her and love and take care of them.
She is survived by four daughters, Sue Dale Galloway and husband Jim of Cornelia, GA, Marie Greene and husband Ronnie of Vale, Sandra Jones and Leoda Clemmer, both of Otto; three sons, Aaron Phillips and wife Rita of Asheville, Bryant Phillips and wife Phyllis of Otto, and Johnny Phillips and wife Cathy of Perry, GA; one sister, Betty McCall of Highlands; five brothers, Clarence Norris and Bill Norris, both of Franklin, Joe Norris of National City, Calif, Harry Norris of Scaly Mtn, and Jerry Norris of Toccoca, GA; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother L T Norris.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, at Tessentee Church of God with Rev Don Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Grandsons Chris Downs, Josh Phillips, Jordan Phillips, Charlie Ledford, Michael Phillips, and Matthew Phillips will serve as pallbearers. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family received friends Sunday, July 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Tessentee Church of God Building Fund.
