Surviving besides his wife are one son, David, U.S. Army, stationed in Virginia; one brother, Johnsie [sic Johncy], of Dodson; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur I. Talton of Winnfield and Mrs. George Dillon of Natchitoches.
Funeral services were held Aug. 23, 1945 with the Rev. Simmons of the West End Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Natchitoches Cemetery.

Gravesite Details
No known marker, but Mr. Gaar's wife and son are known to be interred here. Both Fern Park and American Cemetery were once referred to as "The Natchitoches Cemetery".
