Alma Lehman Menn
Born in San Antonio, Texas on Oct. 31, 1914
Departed on Feb. 11, 2010 and resided in Austin, TX.

Celebration of Life: Monday, Feb. 15, 2010

Long time Austin resident Alma Menn passed away after a lengthy illness on February 11th, 2010 at the age of 95. With her passing friends and family noted the irony that this caring and giving lady, whose long life was identified by an almost legendary loving heart, would ultimately succumb to heart failure.

Alma was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 31, 1914 as the second daughter of Paul and Alma Lehman. She grew up in a loving home with her 6 brothers and sisters and married the lover of her life, Clarence Menn, in 1932 and they enjoyed 59 years together.

Alma and Clarence moved to Austin in 1945 where she had a successful 32 year professional career as a manager with Southwestern Bell Telephone. The Menn's joined Central Christian Church in 1951 where Alma served as a Deaconess and Elder. She also served as the chairman of the church social committee, and for many years at Christmas she delighted the children in the church day care by playing Mrs. Claus during annual holiday festivities.

Alma will always be remembered for her style and beauty, her endearing and sometimes wicked sense of humor, and her total enjoyment of life. Most importantly, she will be remembered for her capacity to care for others. Friends, family, and countless strangers were recipients of her gracious generosity. Even in the last months of her life she managed to still prepare delicious meals, send encouraging notes, and make personal visits to people in need.

In addition to her church activities, she was Volunteer Coordinator for St. David's Hospital where she oversaw all volunteer activities and logged over 2, 000 hours herself. She was an original sponsor of the Settlement Home of Austin garage sale, and contributed financially to numerous charities including UNICEF and Save the Children. She was also a member of the Austin Women's Club and the Austin Club.

Alma is preceded in death by her husband and parents as well as her brothers, Robert, Paul, and Dan Lehman and sister Ruby Moore. She is survived by a sister Helen Meerscheidt of Austin and numerous nieces and nephews who knew her affectionately as their beloved Aunt Nooney. Other Austin area surviving relatives include: niece Linda Dalton, nephews John Hathaway, David Lehman and Mark Lehman and sister-in-law Ginny Lehman.

Alma's family would like to extend a very special thank you to Drs. Matthew Rogers of the Seton Heart Institute and Steven Booton with Austin Medical Associates. They are also grateful to Alma's angels: Dora Hernandez, Ernestine Brooks and the late Connie Birchett.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 15 in the sanctuary at Central Christian Church located 1110 Guadalupe St. in Austin, Texas. A brief committal service will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Sunset Memorial Park, San Antonio.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of choice or to the Alma Menn Flower fund at Central Christian Church.
