McLoud resident Shannon Lee Fredman died Thursday, Feb. 11 2010 in McLoud at the age of 30.

He was born Aug. 29, 1979 in Oklahoma City to Virginia Fredman. He graduated from Dale High School.

Shannon, who was a K-9 handler, had been with the Mcloud Police Department for four years and was also a volunteer firefighter.

Nancy Warren, a police dispatcher who has worked with Fredman for many years, said he was professional and "an all-around good guy." "He was awesome to work with," she said. When he was on patrol, "I always knew exactly where he was and what he was doing. He was precise on the radio." Nancy said Fredman was often called "Officer Fred," and was well-liked in the community.

Chief Gary Roe, of the Mcloud Police Department, said that was a local boy who was born and raised in the McLoud area, so "Everybody knows Fred and Fred knows everybody."

"Oklahoma lost a good officer today," District Attorney Richard Smothermon said Friday afternoon. "It's a sad day for law enforcement."

Shannon enjoyed fixing cars, fishing, 4-wheeling, floating the river with his friends and playing Wii with his niece Maycee.

Preceding him in death was his papa, CJ Fredman.

Shannon is survived by his mother, Virginia "Ginny" Fredman of McLoud; sister, Shawna Spain and husband James of McLoud; niece, Maycee Spain of McLoud; Nanny, Mary Fredman of McLoud; aunt, Charlene Wooten of Shawnee; uncle, Rick Fredman and wife Tracy of Wellston; aunt, Margie Cox of New Mexico; aunt, Katy Long of Altus, his K-9 "Sgt. Ricci", several cousins, friends and brothers in blue that will forever cherish his memory.

Service were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the McLoud High School Gym with Wayne Price and fellow members of the Police and Fire Department officiating. Hundreds attended from around the state and country.

Burial followed at the Dale Cemetery.
