MILTON -

Merrill N. Coup, 71, of Housel's Run Road, passed away at his home on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009.
He was born April 23, 1938, in Milton, a son of the late Francis M. and Sadie (Carter) Coup. On Sept. 12, 1958, he married Shirley J. Wert who survives.

Merrill was a graduate of Milton High School, a 1959 graduate of Williamsport Technical School, and served in the National Guard.

He was employed as an electrician at International Home Foods for 44 years, retiring in 2000.

Merrill loved Milton and was proud to be from the "Acre". He was a former leader of Cub Scout pack 3623 and Boy Scout Troop 623 for many years. Merrill also had a passion for the Milton Train Museum and enjoyed hunting and traveling.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by one son, M. Todd Coup, of Turbotville; one daughter and one son-in-law, Jill A. and Jim Foresman, of Elimsport; four grandchildren, Matthew T. Coup, of Norfolk, Va., Ashlee R. Coup, of Northumberland, Jerrold S. Foresman, of Elimsport, and Jessica N. Foresman, of Selinsgrove; and three great-grandchildren, Bradyn, Bradley, and Leah Foresman, of Elimsport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lemuel and Fred Coup, and five sisters, Evelyn Winter, Helen Scott, Pearline Shively, Mary Ranck, and Anna Geiswite.

Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Milton, where the funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with his pastor, the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating.

Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, Milton.
