Mariah was the daughter of Mathew 'Gale' Deatherage and Matilda ('Tilda') Simmons (married 12 April 1817, Stokes County, North Carolina).

Mariah married Charles 'Samuel' Harbour (F.A.G. memorial 140716510) who died at the Battle of the Crater, July 30, 1864. After the Civil War, Mariah and her 4 daughters moved to Monitau county, Missouri where two of her brothers had resided prior to the War. There, she married Matthew Henry Deatherage in 1871 but she died the following year; they had one son, Edgar S. Deatherage (1872-1925).
