VIOLA MARY GREEN ATKINSON

Viola Mary Green Atkinson, of Vineland and formerly of Millville, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010.

Born in Millville on June 12, 1927, she lived in Millville for the greater part of her life. She was the daughter of the late Raymond B. Green and Mildred Slimmer Green of Millville. Her Maternal Grandparents are Edwin P. and Viola Slimmer. Viola married Herbert D. Atkinson Sr. on Feb. 14, 1953. During her early career, she had worked for Nester Glass in the lamp room. She then graduated LPN school in 1967, winning the Highest Scholastic Achievement Award, and became an awesome nurse working at the Millville Hospital and later doing private duty nursing for the late Mr. Frank Wheaton Sr., and the late Otto Pelizoto. Mrs. Atkinson was active in church as she was a member of the Alliance Women at the Living Faith Alliance Church in Vineland.She was also a Sunday school teacher for seniors at the First Church of the Nazarene in Millville and also had taught Sunday school at West Side Methodist Church in Millville. She loved to read, sing, listen to music, bake, write poetry, paint, spend time with her family, go to church, read the Bible, take long nature hikes, and head to the shore with her loving husband.

She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Herbert D. Atkinson Sr.; children, Raymond and Penny Atkinson of Washington, Ill., Herbert D. Atkinson Jr. of Millville, Jean and Ted Bobroski of Woolwich Township, Jim and Rhonda Atkinson of Vineland, and Juliana and Jon Frankenfield of Vineland; grandchildren, Steve Atkinson of Washington, Amber Smith of Washington, Christopher Atkinson of Millville, David Henry of Millville, Kim and George Lebron of Millville, Tom and Maryann Bobroski of Bensalem, Pa., Megan and Randy Luciano of Chesire, Conn., Rich and Theresa Bobroski of Cherry Hill, and JoAnn Miller and Luis Castro of Vineland; great-grandchildren, Kaila Smith of Washington, Ashley Smith of Sedila, Mo., Eric Henry of Millville, Rhianna Henry of Millville, Nicholas Lebron of Millville, Brooke Lebron of Millville, Shane Bobroski of Bensalem, Virginia Luciano of Chesire, Nathaniel "Nate" Luciano of Chesire, and Antonio James "AJ" Castro of Vineland; great-great-grandchildren, Halle Herrick and Alex Herrick of Sedila; and sister, Josephine and George McMahon Sr. of Millville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Rocap Shannon Memorial Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

She is buried next to her grandparents Edwin and Viola Slimmer.


Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday and again from 9 until 10 a.m. Saturday.
