Ira Erwin Hand was born on April 27, 1881 at Murphysboro, Illinois and passed away at Yankton, SD, July 18, 1951 at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 21 days.

At an early age, he with his family moved to Galena, Kansas. It was here in the year 1900, that he was married to Eva Hines. 12 children were born to this union, 2 of whom preceded him in death, one in infancy and his eldest daughter, Ruth, who passed away in March 1951.

The family moved to Moenville, SD in 1924, where his wife passed away in 1930. In June 1934 he moved to the Milesville community and the following September was married to Jessie Eymer, also of Milesville, where they made their home until moving to Philip in 1940. He had been in failing health for the past two years.

He is survived by 10 children, Percy, Verne, Myrle, Bud, Fred, Viola Fosheim, Laura Eymer, Carried Standiford, Clara Crowley, and Juanita Nesheim. He is also survived by one sister Eliza Baines, one brother Charles; one step-son; four step-daughters; 65 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
