Secretary-Designate United States Navy. In Hendersonville, North Carolina on July 19, 1967, eighty-two persons, including Secretary-Designate of the Navy John T. McNaughton, his wife Sarah and their son, Theodore age 11, were killed when a jetliner collided with a smaller plane and spiraled to earth. The McNaughton's were returning from a trip to Weaversville, North Carolina, where the boy had attended summer camp.
