Mary Brobeck was born April 6th, 1935, in Fredrick county, Virginia. She was married to J. J. Arnold on Oct. 23, 1857. To this union were born thirteen children, seven boys and six girls, eleven children now living. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Arnold came to Iowa in April, 1883, making their home at Keota. The deceased united with the Presbyterian church at an early age. All through her illness she bore her suffering patiently. She lived a faithful, consistent, christian life, and on March 9th, 1908, peacefully passed away, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. L. Holmes, Williamsburg, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 5 days.

For us there are loss and sorrow;
For her is the endless morrow,
And the reaping time of the heart.

The funeral occurred Wednesday, March 11, at 2 o.clock p. m. from the J. G. Arnold residence, in charge of Rev. John C. Giffen, and the remains were bured beside the husband in the Keota cemetery.
