J. J. Arnold died at this home in Keota, Iowa, at 8:30 a. m., August 26, 1906, aged 81 years, 8 months and 21 days. His had been a lingering illness. He was stricken with paralysis more than a year ago, from which he rallied but has been frail ever since then and bedfast several months. Thinking the end was near, his children have been summoned a number of times this last summer but his hold on life was tenacious and he would rally. However the life cords slowly and gradually relaxed and he is no more. Sturdy man, we shall miss him.

The deceased was born at Mansfield, Ohio, December 4th, 1824. He was married October 23rd, 1851, to Miss Mary Brobeck of Steubenville, Ohio. To this union were born thirteen children - seven boys and six girls - all now living with the exception of two boys. He joined the Presbyterian church in his early days and has been a faithful Christian and member since then being an elder for a number of years, also superintendent of Sunday school at his former home in Ohio. The deceased came to Iowa April 26th, 1883, with his family, locating on a farm south of Keota where they resided a number of years. He then retired from the farm and moved to Keota where he has resided since that time.

Funeral services were held at the late residence this morning at 10:30, in charge of Rev. John C. Giffen. Burial in the Keota Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
