MILLVILLE COUPLE DIE WITHIN HOUR, FUNERAL MONDAY
A Millville couple, Mr. and Mrs. William W. Van Houten died within an hour of each other last Friday November 29th.
Mrs. William W. Van Houten 74, died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, following a four years' illness. Her husband 75, died about 45 minutes later at his farm home without learning of his wife's death. His death was attributed to a heart condition, from which he had suffered for the past five years.
The couple was married January 26, 1910, in Winatoon, Nebraska. They had farmed in the Millville area most of their lives.
Mr. Van Houten was born November 13, 1888, to Mr. and Mrs. John Van Houten in Gibson City, Illinois. His wife, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fischer was born September 22, 1889, in Verdegree, Nebraska.
The couple's survivors are: Four sons Harry at home; George, Dover; Charles, Winona; and Mason, Elgin; five daughters, Mrs. Buford (Etta) Hilleshiem, Hager City, Wisconsin; Mrs. Franklin (Alma) Wempner, Zumbrota; Mrs. George (Ella) Kruger, Fairmont; Mrs. Emil (Joyce) Siewert, Millville; and Mrs. Lyman (Mildred) Plank, Utica; 40 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Two daughters are deceased.
Mr. Van Houten's survivors are two brothers; Hugh, Red Wing and George, Theilman; and three sisters; Mrs. George (Lois) Kamph, Wabasha, Mrs. William (Elsie) Hager, Theilman and Mrs. Lester (Mabel) Nelson, Sandstone, Minn. One sister and eight brothers have died.
Mrs. Van Houten's survivors are five brothers; William, Sharon Springs, Kansas; Julius, Oakley, Kansas; Charles, Wallace, Kansas; Arthur, Leota, Kansas; and Earl McGee, Missouri; and two sisters Mrs. Arthur (Dora) Sparks, Oakley, Kansas and Mrs. Otto (Pearl) Steineipher, Colmo, California. One sister, and one brother have died.
Double funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace United Church of Christ, Millville, with the Rev. Philip Schowalter officiating. Burial was in the Millville Cemetery. Schleicher funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
