Lloyd Edward Butler, 78, died Monday at the Queen of the Valley Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Butler was born and educated in Knights Valley.

He worked in Knights Valley, Calistoga and Sacramento and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

On Dec. 10, 1932 he married the former Helen Fleming in Richmond and they lived in Calistoga and Napa. He worked at Mare Island until 1960 when he retired.

He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post No. 231 of Calistoga and a member of World War I veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Butler of Napa; two daughters, Mrs. William (Hazel) Scheff of Benicia and Mrs. Edward (Janice) Smith of Vallejo; a brother, George Butler of Napa and seven grandchildren.
