Ben married Cecilia Rose Ondrovich. Cecilia was born 2 Feb. 1896 in Czechoslovakia to Francis Ondrovich and Katherine Olfcick [Oefcick?], both born in Czechoslovakia. Cecilia married Felix Gustafik ca 1914. She worked as a masseuse at Pacheteau Hot Springs in Calistoga for about 6 years. She and Felix had two children, Francis and Annie. Cecilia and Felix divorced. Cecilia died 18 October 1965 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Helena, Napa Co., CA.

By 1935, Celia was a patient at Imola State Hospital in Napa, Napa Co., CA. She was a patient there until she died.

At this time, if a spouse was institutionalized in CA, there could be no divorce. Ben Biter & Evelyn Joseph established a family in Calistoga, Napa Co. CA. Their children include Benjamin F. Biter, Jr., Mary Nancy, George H. and Evelyn. There were several other children who were put up for adoption.

Note: Ben Biter Sr.'s adoptive parents, John Biter (b. 12 July 1841, Germany, d. 16 Oct. 1912) and Catherine (Kate) M. (Harford) Biter (b. Jan. 1837, New York, d. 1925) are buried in the Biter Family Cemetery on Lommel Rd, Calistoga, Napa Co. CA. John and Catherine married ca 1872. Records show that John Biter was living in San Francisco as early as 1876, working as a bookkeeper for M&C Mangels. According to the 1880 census, they were living in San Francisco, CA. He was a florist and a member of the United Ancient Order of Druids. There's record of John's being active in this organization in 1876 in San Francisco. Besides fostering children, they had a son, John Biter Jr. living with them as a student in 1881.

Note of Interest: 1900 found the family in Belvedere, Marin Co., CA. John and Caroline Biter operated a facility taking care of orphaned and needy children. By 1910, the family was living near Lommel Road, off of the Silverado Trail outside Calistoga (Hot Springs), CA. The area was known as Biter Canyon. Also a creek was named after the family. John Biter was a stock raiser. His death certificate says "formally a physician...."

Prior to his death, Ben was living at Ogletrees Court in St. Helena, CA.

Ben's obit lists as his survivors: Benjamin F. Biter, Jr. of Calistoga, CA; Mrs. Mary Buskirk of Winnemucca, Nevada; Mrs. Evelyn Wolverton of Lodi, CA; George Biter of St. Helena, CA; and Lucien Biter Smith of Los Angeles, CA. Also surviving were seven grandchildren.

Notes: Lucien was the son of Ben & Evelyn Biter whom they adopted out.

SSDI reports that Ben's son, Benjamin Franklin Biter, Jr. died 12 June 2000 in Trent, Taylor Co., Texas. Ben, Jr. was born 4 Aug 1935 in Napa Co., Calif.
