Macelyn V. Anders, M.D., died at Ogeechee Area Hospice on Thursday, January 28, 2010. Dr. Anders was born August 16, 1915, in Marietta, Ohio. He was a graduate of Marietta College in 1940 and a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
Dr. Anders earned a Master of Science degree from Browns University in 1942 and was a member of Sigma Xi scientific fraternity. During World War II, he served as a research pathologist on the Manhattan Project. He received a doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Medical School, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1949.
Dr. Anders practiced general medicine in Parkersburg, W. Va., from 1950-1953. He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps from 1953-1955. He practiced general medicine in Warner Robins, Ga., from 1955-1972 and was the college physician of Georgia Southern University from 1972-1982.
Dr. Anders was a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, the Ogeechee Medical Society and the NRA. He had served on the boards of Ogeechee Home Health and Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Dr. Anders donated his body to the Medical College of Georgia for study and research.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elinor Imogene; his son, Roger M. Anders, and daughter-in-law, Karoline, of Germantown, Md.; granddaughters, Anna and Ginger Baker.
