CHAMPLAIN — Frank M. Parker Sr., 87, of Dubois Road, Champlain died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with family members by his side.
Frank was born March 14, 1922, in Parowan, Utah, son of Daniel Sinclair Parker and Annice Ann Gillis. Frank was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division, "Screaming Eagles." He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post1418 in Champlain.
Frank was a construction worker for various construction companies and worked on the Lincoln Tunnel in New York City.
He enjoyed woodworking, working with antiques, making boats, playing the lottery and gambling. He also liked sports, especially football, baseball and boxing.
Frank is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Phaneuf) of Champlain; four sons, Frank Parker Jr. and his wife Delia, of Champlain, David Parker of Springfield, Mass., Donald Phaneuf of Champlain and Randal J. Phaneuf of Champlain; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Phaneuf of Champlain, Aurel Phaneuf of Rouses Point and Elden "Kurt" Phaneuf and his wife Shirley of Champlain; sisters-in-law, Joyce Coupal, Lorna Coupal and Pauline LaPort, all of Champlain and Marie Phaneuf of Mooers Forks; and three grandchildren, Brianna, Joshua and Jonathan Parker; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, including Robert, Paul, David and Max; and five sisters, including Helen, Ruth, Hortense, Beatrice and Myrtle; aunts; uncles, among them Robert Leroy Parker, better known as the affable outlaw Butch Cassidy; nieces and nephews.
The family deeply appreciates the wonderful care given to Frank the last few weeks of his life in the CVPH Intensive Care Unit.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, June 8, at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Delbel, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Champlain, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery in Mooers Forks.
